Whenever you delete a file on your computer, it is not actually deleted. All the file system does is to mark the address on the file system as empty.
The file is actually still there and third party programs are able to restore them. However, they can only be restored, if the disk space was not overwritten otherwise.
And this is actually exactly where this app comes in. It writes a large file that has the exact same size as the free space available on the disk and therefore it makes it impossible for third aprty programs to restore files.
Files still on the disk will not be deleted. So if you have files that you did not delete, this app will also not delete them. It will only wipe the free space on the disk.
If you cancel the wipe action, third party programs may be able to restore some files. This is the case, if there were many small files on the disk.
